Friday Was Great

I had a really good time yesterday.

I picked up my friend M and headed Champion lakes for a golf outing. We were playing in a scramble with 2 others from my firm, D and G. By way of background, last year D, G, I and another guy, J played in a different outing. At that event I played horrible. G got really drunk & was talking shit about my golf game. He was standing next to the barrel of beer saying loudly... "everybody say goodby the Knight, he won't be on the team next year..." The after the outing actually was our firm picnic... I didn't go, but I heard he was talking smack, even drunker the before. So, the next day I was playing at the country club of the managing partner. He was saying some things about the match we were gonna play that didn't make sense to me. After about 2 or 3 holes, he says to me... "I don't know what G was talking about, your game is fine... I thought I was going to be carrying you." Then he spilled the beans of the smack G was talking. This pissed me off. The rest of the round, every time I hit a good shot, I would turn around and say, "where the F is GW!!!"

Yesterday was the first time I golfed with G since. I really wanted to show him up. I did!!!For you non-golfers that read this, in a scramble, everybody in the 4some plays from the same spot, and the team uses the best shot, then moves on and everybody plays from there, and so on. Well, yesterday... our first tee shot... BAM, I crushed it right down the middle!!! It only got better from there. I was pulling all the shots outta my bag... long irons, fairway woods, chip shots, but probably the best was my "7 iron bump & run"... 3 outta 3 I was flawless. I talked shit BIG TIME on G.

Hole number 16 was memorable. It is a really long par 3... 218 yards. The hole was being sponsored by a company called PDG. They has 4 hot girls sitting there passing out cigars. It turns out I know the family of one of the girls. So, while we are waiting for the group ahead of us play the hole, I am chatting the girls up pretty good. (me, chatty???) Anyway, the green clears, I tee up my ball and... BANG, right on the green, closest to the pin, for a prize. The girls gave me a cheer. (G shanked his shot!!!) I couldn't have written it any better.

After the outing, M & I headed back into downtown for the baseball game. The weather was perfect. We met a group of friends at Hi-Tops, across from the ball park. Donna met us there. We went over to the game. The Pirates lost by 1 run, but they lose all the time anyway. But, it was fireworks night. They were cool. Donna & I snuck away from the group for a bit... Just long enough to be noticed, but not long enough to be rude... We stopped at a little bar on the way home for 2 more beers...

I must say, it was a great day. I don't know that I could have scripted it any better.

way to play! I love it when I get to rub it into the face of the trash-talkers with a good round ... or at least a better round than them! LOL
