This Weekend

The weather man says the sun might actually come out this weekend. What a treat!!!

I have not big plans, as usual. There is a b-day party tomorrow night. Sunday, I might play golf, if weather permits. No Steelers game as they are playing Baltimore on Monday Night Football.

Next Wednesday I leave for Florida for a few days allegedly for a work related convention.

I am staying at the Loews Hotel on Southbeach in Miami. See the photos above. I plan to be sitting in one of those lounge chairs with bikini clad waitress bringing me frozen drinks.

We have a 6pm reception "meet-n-greet" to attend on that first day. The next 2 days are scheduled full of seminars-n-stuff... think I'll be attending... HA!!! I am specifically being sent there to be social & try to network some new clients. Can anyone be social at a seminar?... I don't think so!!! I will be hitting the cocktail parties and the bars...

As an additional bonus, I am working on the boss I am going with to spring for a round of golf at Doral Golf Resort- The Blue Monster!!!

There was a little drinking discussion over on gigi’s page. Because of it, I thought I’d share a little drinking story with you.

I used to drink Jameson’s, on the rocks ONLY. If a bar didn’t have it, I’d just walk out.

I was in Florida, visiting a friend and his girlfriend. The girl I was supposed to be there with ended up heading back by herself (another story). So I partied with my friends.

We go to a bar in Ft. Lauderdale called Irish Bob’s. I sit down & order my Jameson’s on the rocks. The bar tender says, “yea... that’s the way a man is supposed to drink. If you like that, have you ever tried 12 year old Jameson’s?” I reply, “no, I never knew they made a 12 year old...” He then reachs up, grabs a bottle, pours me a shot... “here try this, on the house!!!”

I drank the shot & before the glass hit the bar I was saying “MORE.” After that, I was drinking shots of 12 yo, chasing them with 8yo on the rocks... Some things happened that night & into the next day of which I have no first hand memory, there for any comment I would make would be hearsay (an out of court statement, offered for the truth of the matter asserted therein). I do know, it was not pretty. I woke up in my hotel, fully clothed (by my self). No wallet, no room key, no idea how i got in the room, no idea where my car was... (you get the idea...)

This weekend was fairly uneventful again...

Saturday was a rainy & cold day. I used this opportunity to clean my little apartment. I did the laundry early, then hit the Dollar General store for cleaning supplies. (these places are great for this stuff... even got a new mop) Then I hit the store for some food shopping. I needed to buy some special things for Sunday. Some friends planned on celebrating M’s birthday (belated). I was going to make some mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat.

So after the housework was over, I went to Local Bar to have a beer with P and give him more books. T was working, she hasn’t been there in a few weeks, being fired. However, the owners decided she wasn’t stealing after all. She has her share of problems, but dishonesty isn’t one of them.

Anyway, I went home after the Pitt game. Then I got a call from M’s younger sister. She said M went to the hospital with chest pains. Everything was ok, but they were keeping her for observation. Well, that killed the plans to watch the football game & have dinner. So we just hit Local Bar for the game. M was released from the hospital in time to see the 2d half of the game with us. We then went to BB’s to try to do the dinner anyway. I did make the mushrooms & they were good. Drank a little too much beer though.
They whupped us pretty good. It was like they came in here with an attitude and (determined) to deliver a message, you know?

This is my desk...

In response to gigi's post about the Mommy game, I did the I Lose at the Lawyers Comparing Life Status Games as well, here is my example:

Lawyer #1: I’m 36 years old, I’ve been practicing for over 10 years. I made partner 5 years ago. I’m married with 3 kids. I have a hot girl on the side. I have a big house in the suburbs. I can never decide which of my 3 vehicles to drive. Thank god mom & dad paid for that schooling.

Lawyer #2: I’m 25 years old & just got hired by “Big Ass Firm” here in town, right out of law school. I make twice as much as you, have never set foot in a courtroom, don’t know the first thing about practicing law & couldn’t relate to other human beings if I tried. Oh, by the way, check out the new sports car I just bought!

Me: I’m 39 yeas old & have only been practicing law for 5 years. I am an associate (pee on) at a mid-sized firm. Yep, that’s right. I screwed around for like 10 years doing things like scuba diving, partying and other things that can’t be discussed in this group. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment & drive a chevy that is really beginning to fall apart. After I get out from under these crushing school loans, I’d like to build a house on the land I bought 20 years ago.
Two interesting things from this morning:

1. The sunrise from out of my office window was great. I wish I had my d-camera, it would have been nice to share; and

2. When a small child smiles at you (I don't know how old, about this high *indicating with hand*) you can't but help smile back, regardless of your actual mood.

I tried the google your name and needs, as I saw on some other blogs.... this is what came up:

Greg Needs a Friend (can’t we all?)

Greg needs to do right now (do what?)

Greg needs a new backhand (I have played my share of racquetball, but it has been a while)

Greg needs to take stock of his situation (true...)

Greg needs to set up a more extensive experiment (It’s ALIVE!!!)

Greg needs to find a conservative middle-ground strategy that provides globalization (?)

Greg needs to be occupied and employed (Occupied, maybe, but employed? Is there something you are not telling me?)

Greg needs another arm (What would I do with 3? masturbate more, while smoking and operating the remote control?)

Greg needs to do something about his evil twin. (I am a Gemini after all)

Greg needs to spend time reading some of our ancient texts (I thought I spent too much time reading as it was?)

Another uneventful weekend.

Saturday, I did laundry early. Got a hair cut. Then did a little shopping. Later, I friend called & we played 18 holes of golf. I didn’t play real well, but did finish with a par on #18, which was nice.

We then went to the local bar to watch some college football. Penn State was playing Michigan & the Notre Dame v. USC game was on. We had a few beers, then my friends M & BB stopped by. BS’d with them for a bit, but started getting a buzz. Went home & called it a night.

Sunday. Watched TV till it was time to go over to my parent’s place for a B-Day party for my cousin L. Watched the Steelers lose to Jacksonville & ate all day. Then went home, stopping at local bar for 2 beers to help relax.

Than was it!!! I really needs some more interesting things to do.

More redundant discovery....

Everyone has this image in their head from TV of what it is like to be a lawyer. Well, let me tell you, TV got it wrong!!!

I am the first one in the office this morning, as usual. I am a few minutes later today because I stayed up until the Steelers (who won, BTW) game was over. Sitting on my chair is more discovery in a really big case in another state. Let me say that again... MORE F-ING Discovery!!! Basically the same discovery they have sent 4 times before, just reworded slightly. They are pissing me off!!! I am half tempted to file a Motion for a Protective Order so that if this is all they got to ask... the same questions over & over, we don't have to respond.

So I jump on the computer, even before getting my first cup of joe, and bang out some very curt answers and objections.

Sometimes I wish we could all just get along... ya know what I mean?

I've been looking around at other blogs...

Trying to get some ideas of some interesting things to post. The ramblings of my boring daily activities seem so boring next to what other bloggers do. I tried doing one of these 10 things I hate... blogs I saw somewhere, never made it through the first one (I had to explain it to the N'th degree) I don't write good sex stories, or I should say I've never tried. HNT is a sight no one want to see!!! What can I do to make this interesting???

Well, as I am a lawyer, I think I'll talk about some of the goofy stuff that happens in the law and in a law office.
Good news about the post below.

I was able to convince the court on Friday to keep the annuities in place for the little girl. It made my day & the insurance company I was working for was very pleased as well (see... insurance companies aren’t all bad, well sometimes anyway).

Another weekend has been here and gone. You may notice, I don’t blog of the weekend. Hell, I don’t even have internet at home.

Saturday was definitely a lazy day. I was a bit hung over as I blew off the rest of the day Friday, after court & drank. I did get up pretty early and ran to the store to get some food to cook. It was a cold & rainy day so I decided to make some chicken soup with matzo balls. Between cooking and napping, I watched sports. The matzo balls turned out fantastic.

I then ran down to the local bar, to give some books to P. He’s a retired guy who just reads books & drinks at the bar. The public library near his house is closed for a while, so I have been keeping him supplied with books. He was gone when I stopped, but I drank a few beers and chatted. Later, when I was home, M called and wanted me to meet her for a few beers & watch the Penn State v. Ohio State football game. I went down and watched the game. Penn State won. She asked me if I want to golf with her, her sister & her friend Donna. Now, she has been trying to fix me up with Donna for some time now, but I’m always like “no.” It turns out she is pretty cute & a good golfer too. (you can tell I accepted)

Sunday was golfing with the girls, mentioned above. It was overcast & a little chilly, but not a bad day all in all. We drank too much. (do you see a theme developing here?)

Lastly, tonight the Steelers play on Monday Night Football v. San Diego. I think the Steelers are in trouble for this one.

I am trying to settle a case. All I want to do is pay the little girl, whose mother got killed tragically $100,000.00. It was agreed to put the money into a structured settlement that would pay her $216,000.00 over the life of the structure. Not a bad return. The annuities were funded on the oral agreement.

Now this was agreed to over 2 years ago by the little girl’s paternal grandfather, as her representative and the representatives of the estate (who happen to be the maternal grandparents) of the dead mother.

Now the fun begins. The families are fighting over issues involving a car, believe it or not. The estate representatives refuse to sign the release papers as leverage on the other issues.

So now what can I do? My first impulse is to unfund the annuities, costing the little girl the interest that they have gained over the last 2 years. Have the carrier cut a check for the $100k, pay it into court escrow & let the families fight over it. But, honestly, I feel bad about that. The little girl didn’t do anything wrong, but at the end of the day, it’s her that will lose out.

some peoples passions are money... I wish I was as certain of what my passion is. It used to be diving. Then it was literature. There has always been cooking & music. But right it is trying to help this little girl.

The bane of my existence, rush hour traffic on what we call the "Parkway East"

Learning this photo stuff. I haven't got the hang of it yet, but hey... this is me. Posted by Picasa
This weekend is over... just a few thoughts...

I played golf on Saturday morning with one of the partners from my firm. Now, I don’t play “boss golf”, I play to win. I had him by 8 strokes on the front 9. He started making a move on the back. I in turn started pressing... got out of my rhythm. Opened the door, but he couldn’t walk through... took him by 11 overall.

This partner is an ok guy. He’s a boss, sort of, so I have to be nice, but not generally the kind of guy I would hang out with. Besides, he cheats at golf.

Anyway, my usual golf opponent has been MIA lately, I’m not sure why. He cop’d an attitude a few weeks ago on 16 and hasn’t been the same since. I would like him to get over it, whatever it is. Nice days are drawing to a close for the year & don’t want to waste them.

Yesterday was boring. Got up at 5AM (cuz I just always do, can’t help it) Did my laundry, or at least most of it. Watched TV. I put the sports on in the afternoon. Between football games, I went to the store and bought items I needed for hulushki. (It turned out really good, btw) Stopped at my little local bar for a few Miller Lites and some conversation & called it a day.

I must say, I would have preferred to golf with, I’ll call him AC.

Also, I miss D. She was a friend, whom I work with who golfed well & was pretty cool to hold & talk to also. I tried to make it more, but she said no. So now we don’t hang out, oh well...
